为什么基督徒看禁食祷告为一件不正常的习惯?为什么今天卫理公会华人教会鲜少谈禁食祷告?为什么牧者在讲台上很少或从来没有传讲禁食祷告的信息?为什么西方教会不再强调禁食祷告?为什么卫斯理约翰所列下的五个施恩途径(祷告,读经,圣餐,禁食,团契)当中,禁食往往是被忽略的途径?
约翰派博(John Piper)在他的渴慕神(A Hunger for God)著作里谈到西方教会不再看重禁食祷告,因为食物已经代替上帝的地位,人们不尊主为大,而是尊食物为大。
华人也是尊食物为大,因为华人说“民以食为天”。但是成为基督徒之后的华人,为什么仍然强调“民以食为天”呢?是不是食物还是上帝(“天”)呢?什么时候可以让上帝代替食物呢?
去年十二月6-8日,砂拉越卫理公会几百位牧者和弟兄姐妹同心同行,进行了第二年的三天以斯帖禁食祷告日,到了最后一天,圣灵感动我写下了“民以天为食”,主让我看到我们在一起学习渴慕神,实际经历耶稣所说的:“我就是生命的粮。到我这里来的,必定不饿;信我的,永远不渴。。。我是从天上降下来生命的粮,人若吃这粮,就必永远活着。我所要赐的粮就是我的肉,为世人之生命所赐的。”(约翰福音六35, 51)
为什么我们要禁食祷告?
禁食祷告,除了是为要达到同心合意,专心一意,合神心意的目的,也是因为我们要尊主为大,渴慕上帝,得主报答和渴望主来。

尊主为大:禁食是看重主耶稣超过万事包括食物,如使徒保罗所说:
“不但如此,我也将万事当做有损的,因我以认识我主基督耶稣为至宝。 我为他已经丢弃万事,看做粪土,为要得着基督。“(腓三8) -
渴慕上帝:禁食是渴慕上帝自己,切切的寻求祂,如同诗人说:“神啊,你是我的神,我要切切地寻求你!在干旱疲乏无水之地,我渴想你,我的心切慕你。”(诗六十三1)

得主报答:禁食是正常的基督徒生活,而且是得到上帝报答的善行,主耶稣说:“你们禁食的时候,不可像那假冒为善的人,脸上带着愁容,因为他们把脸弄得难看,故意叫人看出他们是禁食。我实在告诉你们:他们已经得了他们的赏赐。你禁食的时候,要梳头洗脸,不叫人看出你禁食来,只叫你暗中的父看见,你父在暗中察看,必然报答你。”(太六16-18)

渴望主来:禁食是渴望新郎主耶稣再来,因为新郎已经离开我们耶稣对他们说:“新郎和陪伴之人同在的时候,陪伴之人岂能哀恸呢?但日子将到,新郎要离开他们,那时候他们就要禁食。“(太九15)“但日子将到,新郎要离开他们,那日他们就要禁食。”(可二20;路五35)
除了一年一次三天的以斯帖禁食祷告,我会所有的牧者和会友要齐心协力,一起进行每星期一次的卫斯理禁食祷告,就是从星期四晚餐之后开始禁食祷告,到星期五下午三点开禁,让我们一起过正常的基督徒生活。让我们一起尊主为大,渴慕上帝,得主报答,渴望主来。
