福音堂成立于第二次世界大战之前。那期间，聚会于利华木材商经理丁明侨府上.姚峭嵚牧师主持圣餐礼拜。
1944年期间，五年时间在贝锡光府上聚会。
教堂于1950年初建成。
1954-57年间，间断没有派牧师主持。由会友轮流主持，包括了丁明侨，林忠赞，陈立侨医生，蒲天寿医生，黄淑娥师姑，李碧琳师姑，魏顺莺，贝锡光等人。
此后，多位牧师，传道，师母等协助堂务工作进展。
